After last week's incredible show in Marsaxlokk, I really couldn't pass up on another night of fireworks. This time however, I stepped it up a notch by teaming up with Dauphin Malta, and my BFF Sarah (genius photographer and fellow law student), and together, we blogged the whole show as we sailed through Malta's Grand Harbour.
Music, the gentle sway of the sea, food, great company and a fireworks show above. I really can't think of a better way to spend the night, can you?
We hopped on board in Sliema, where friendly staff greeted us on board. Soon enough, we were sailing through Marsamxett just as the sun was setting, which is just about golden hour to snap the best shots of our gorgeous capital.
Sailing into the Harbour and past the breakwater is always an experience, especially with the sun setting and the final preparations for the night's show being put in place. The atmosphere is alive with action and anticipation (and Instagramming).
Safely anchored at a safe distance, the first shots were fired, filling the night with light and colour. Our open top boat was at just the right angle to get some great snaps, and of course, to sit back and admire the view!
In between shows, we were served a simple but satisfying dinner, and over glasses of wine, the hours flew by without us realising, as we chatted and laughed the night away. Soon enough, it was time for the grand finale.
Sarah's photos are magnificent, but the whole scene in real life is a whole other world. The centuries-old harbour in the dark night comes to life with hundreds of falling stars, all in sync with legendary tunes from Queen and the like, and the final fiery shot illuminating the whole sky in between Valletta and the three cities. I've said this before, but no one does fireworks quite like the Maltese!
Back on our boat, the music turned up and soon enough, we found ourselves in the middle of a boat party! The atmosphere was cheery, and it was all fine and dandy, until the DJ decided to play Titanic's My Heart will go on, right in the choppiest part of the sail back home...
All in all, booking a charter with Dauphin Malta was the brightest idea of the night (if I do say so myself). A laid-back vibe and the perfect view make it the ideal place to be during the Fireworks Festival! Keep it in mind for next year's Festival, and make sure to check out their facebook page for similar events throughout the summer... over here at The Anti-Tourist we just can't wait! Sea's the day, guys (*ba dum tss*).
The Anti-Tourist was invited to attend Dauphin Malta's Event. Opinions, however, remain my own.
