Tuesday Travel Inspiration: Dragon blood trees

By 08:00:00 , ,

There are few places left on earth which have remained untouched and unspoilt by man or time. Socotra is one of these places.

A small island off the coast of Africa, Socotra has remained pretty much a wild place, full of unique landscapes and animals. Its landscape is quite alienish, with a third of its wildlife to be found nowhere else on Earth. Dragon blood trees (above), for example. grow there in abundance.

Its islanders live simply off the earth, undisturbed by the goings on of our world. They are pretty much cut off from anywhere else; ships connected to the one port in Socotra take two to three days to cross the ocean to Yemen, and only two local airlines fly to its airport. May it stay an untouched piece of heaven for generations to come.
