Tuesday Travel Inspiration: Kingdom of books

By 08:30:00 , , ,

Deep in the lush Welsh countryside, a tiny charming village can be found, as traditional and beautiful as its neighbours. What makes it stand out? It is obsessed with literature.

Hay-on-Wye is not just a bookworm's fantasy. It is very much real, and has over 40 bookshops, each specializing on different topics and genres. The most beautiful thing about this village however is its 'honesty bookshops' which line the streets.

Yes, Hay-on-Wye is intent on restoring your faith in humanity. With honesty bookshops, there is no till or vigilant cashier. You pick the books you love, and put the money in a small moneybox put out on the open air bookshelves. That's it. That's the level of trust and serenity in this village. Bookmarked.

Hay-on-Wye can be reached from Birmingham airport, via train or bus. Don't forget the village hosts its annual Literature Fair in May! Packing yet?
